My area of expertise as a CPA is that of financial analyst in
divorce proceedings.  Working as a
financial analyst in a divorce case, I can help increase the
chances of reaching a settlement that fully addresses the client’
s short-term and long-term financial needs.  I am committed to
achieving the fairest, most financially equitable divorce
settlement possible.

WHEN A PERSON IS CONTEMPLATING DIVORCE, her or his
whole world is turned upside down and the fear of an uncertain
future can take control of their decision-making ability.  With
time, most people will recover from the breakdown of their
relationship; however, they will have to live the rest of their lives
with financial decisions they made while under great emotional
stress.

Financial issues of divorce:

  1. How do we divide the income and assets meant to
provide for one family so that they will meet the needs of
    two families post divorce?
  2. What are the guidelines for child support and or
    alimony?
  3. Are the assets classified as marital property (meaning
accumulated/earned by either spouse since the
beginning of the marriage); or, separate property (1.
Property brought into the marriage, 2.  An inheritance, 3.
Gifts received during the marriage.) What rights do the
other spouse have to separate property?
  4. Retirement funds.  Different criteria should be used to
analyze the value and division and the ensuing tax
liabilities of certain types of retirement assets.
  5. Is there a family owned business involved?  What is the
value?  What is an equitable division?
  6. Potential Income tax liabilities.  While the division of
marital property does not create a tax situation, selling
an asset in the future may trigger an income tax liability
    to the receiving spouse.

Information is a powerful tool.  Working as the financial analyst
in your divorce, I will present several scenarios of the division of
assets.  This information will clarify the financial position of the
marital assets and should level the playing field in your favor.
Your attorney will find this information most useful when
presenting your case to the opposing spouse and their attorney.
